Join us for an enchanting evening of chamber music featuring the Sakuntala Trio, alongside renowned pianist Katya Apekisheva, as they present a captivating programme of works by Schubert, Schumann, and Brahms. Katya Apekisheva, a distinguished pianist and Prizewinner of the Leeds International Piano Competition, has performed with many of the world’s leading orchestras, including the London Philharmonic and the Moscow Philharmonic. The Sakuntala Trio specializes in using raw gut strings and period instruments at historical pitch. Their critically acclaimed debut album, featuring the complete string trios by Schubert, highlights their commitment to reviving the rich traditions of classical music with an exquisite sound.

This evening begins with Schubert’s String Trio in B flat major, D. 471 — a charming, unfinished work, completed by Professor Brian Newbould. Next, Schumann’s Piano Quartet showcases the emotional depth and intricate textures characteristic of his mature oeuvre. The evening culminates in Brahms’ Piano Quartet in G minor, which concludes with a spirited "Gypsy" finale that captures the lively rhythms and vibrant melodies associated with Hungarian folk music, revealing Brahms’ playful and passionate side. This concert promises a unique blend of historical authenticity and exceptional artistry, making for an unforgettable night of music.
