This evening, the London Mozart Players, directed by Simon Blendis, offer a programme of distinguished works spanning the Classical and early modern repertoire.
The concert commences with Mendelssohn’s String Symphony No. 10, a concise yet remarkably assured composition from the young prodigy. Hugo Svedberg then performs Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major, a work of radiant lyricism and technical brilliance.
Following the interval, the ensemble presents Bartók’s Two Romanian Dances, a vivid evocation of folk melodies and rhythms. The programme concludes with Mozart’s Sinfonia Concertante in E-flat major, featuring Simon Blendis (violin) and Aki Blendis (viola) as soloists, a work celebrated for its lyrical interplay and noble spirit.
Aki Blendis, aged 16, was a string finalist in the 2022 BBC Young Musician, and was winner of the Walter Todds Memorial Bursary, since when he has been invited to perform in a number of recitals and concertos across the UK. Aki is a member of the National Youth Orchestra and is also an enthusiastic chamber musician, playing both violin and viola at Beare's Chamber Music.
Hugo Svedberg, born 2008 in London, began taking cello lessons at the age of six and currently studies with Adrian Brendel. In 2024, Hugo won First Prize in the national 'Pole Star Prize' for Swedish Young Musicians and performed the Schumann Cello Concerto as soloist with the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra. Following his win, he represented Sweden competing in the 'Eurovision Young Musicians' in Norway, winning the Silver Medal performing Haydn Concerto in C with the Norwegian Radio Orchestra.
